Successful seed saving depends on thoroughly drying the seeds. If any moisture clings to the seed coats when they are packaged, it may cause them to rot. Allowing seeds to cure in open air also helps to lower their internal moisture. It's important that the internal moisture is below 15% (although I realize you won't be able to measure that).
To save pumpkin seeds, separate them from the sticky pumpkin pulp, and wash the seeds in cool water with a little dish detergent. Blot them dry with paper towels. Find a cool and dark place in your home, and spread the seeds out on a sheet of newspaper, allowing them to cure and dry there for two weeks. Then collect the seeds and put them into a heavy paper envelope (no plastic or glass), and date and label the envelope. Store the seeds in a cool and dark place until spring. That's it!
What is the correct way to store seeds over the winter, the seeds happen to be pumpkin

Thank heaven someone was listening! I’m THRILLED with Fall 2010 issue. I am constantly referencing regarding best way to store veggies to keep fresh and SUCCESSFULLY used the seeds worth saving for my heirloom tomatoe seeds. I have grown my own Garlic for years, not knowing I could be producing in my “shady” spot with wood garlic. I’m eagerly await the next addition. THANK YOU!!!!
I just purchased the winter edition of your magazine and love it – a wonderful resource for Canadian gardeners. Is it possible to purchase back issues?
